Ideas For the Background Layout for our Magazine

Ideas for Our Magazine Fonts

Ideas and Colours for the magazine background

Orange-yellow

We have choesen this coulour
because the bright orange,
yellowish colour represents
happiness, Good times and fun.
This helps us to bring out the
Alternate Hip-hop genre
we have  chosen.

Grey

Green

Since money is usually accosiated
with the Hip-Hop Genre we have chosen
to use a green colour in our magazine.
The green colour is used to show
that the artist are wealthy
as the colour of money is green.

Blue

The bright sky blue colour is used
to represent cheerfulness.
It will be mainly used to emphasis
the success of the artist because a
blue sky is used to signify that there
is no more 'rain' and rain represents
struggles, poverty and pain.
This is usually associated in the
hip-hop genre because the artist are
usually from a poor background.

Costumes to expect in our Music video

Baseball Jacket

We choose  this outfit to be one of our Music video costume because it has been a popular hip-hop outfit through out the history of hip-hop.  Baseball Jacket are usually worn in hip-hop videos to represent the main protagonist. The Jacket is specially design with broad shoulders,  to make the people that wear it look muscular. This is to represent that the Artists are dominant. Hip hop Artists tend to wear this to help them to send this narration to the audience watching. Baseball jackets usually have symbols or name of different cities  such as 'NY', 'L.A' on the back and front of the Jacket. The narration to why artist wear this in their video is to represent their cities and where their from

Wale-Slight work

This is a video which has an hip-hop artist 'Wale' wearing a
baseball jacket in he's video. This is an evidence of how a
Baseball Jacket has become popular in the Hip hop Culture and Genre.

Jacket and Plain T-shirt

We choose this to be one of the costumes in our music video because through out history hip hop artist are known to wear expensive necklaces on their plain white T-shirt. Hip hop Artist usually wear this out fit (Dark Jacket and a plain white T-shirt) because the contrast between the Jacket and the T-shirt helps their necklace to stand out, so that it is more obvious to see. The narration to this is that the Artist is wealthy and can afford all these expensive materials.

Blazer with high tops

We chose this to be apart of our music video costume because the blazer is formal. Blazers are you usually known to be a formal clothing and are usually allocated to people with good education Background such as Lawyers and Doctors. The narration to this is slight formal look is to show that some hip-hop artist are quite sophisticated. The High tops shoes which the artist is wearing is not very formal which gives this costume a good balance for our music video. The fact that the Artist is wearing a blue coloured hat and a blue coloured Jacket is to stand out because no one really wears a hat on a blazer. this is done purposely by the artist because he doesn't want to fit the Hip-hop stereotype or go against it, so therefore he is a bit of both.

We chose this to be a part of the costumes that will be used in our music video because it is a fashionable modern clothing that is current in 2012 and since our music video is set in the modern age of Hip- hop this will be an appropriate clothing for it. Even though the long Shirt looks formal, the trainers and the Hat still brings back the Hip-Hop genre in the outfit.

Stereotypical Hip hop artists

Within music video rappers are often found in expensive houses and massive mansions, around loads of girls. This is done by directors and recording companies to portray wealth and power. Within music video, rappers show off but at the same time seem to keep up their status from the street. Low angels are often use in their music videos to support the idea that these rappers are powerful. The use of women in music videos all the time gives the views an idea that the rappers are extremely sexually active and very popular with the ladies. This makes the viewer idolise them and want to be like them.  not only do rappers want to keep up thier ganster image in music video, they now want to be seen as business men as they all now wear suits and act like they are part of the mafia! Hip-hop is also to do with race, as most hip-hop artists are black the music has now become a over view of the changes on the black economy. Though these musicians often exaggerated their wealth people have accepted it as it is. It just like how rockstars wear women's clothes and make up and at the same time have sex with so many women. The images seen on the music videos are just for front characters created to draw in a particular audience.

Props we are going to use in our music video

We are planning to smash some bottles in our music video.
This is to represent that the Artists are wealthy and are focusing in having the best time of their lives.  Since in Typical Hip Hop music Videos smashing bottles have always been used in order to show the great fun the artist are having. It is done purposely to make to audience aspire to be like the artists.

We are planning to use a fog machine to give our
music video a club video look. This because now nowadays
Hip hop music videos are set in  clubs.

We are planning to burn a fake money in our
music video. This will be used to symbolize
the abuse of money in Hip hop music videos.

This is a prove to show that money are often abused in Hip Hop music videos. The narration to this is that the artist are rich and wealthy, they have so much money and they can afford to throw some away. It is also used to symbolizes that the artists are absolutely unstoppable and they can do what ever pleases them even thought it may seem bizarre.  American Dollars are usually used instead of any other currency because the Hip hop Genre is originated in the New york where American Dollar is the currency.

Props used in music videos

In typical Hip Hop Music Videos, money are usually shown in close up shots to how significant it is in the music industry. For our Music video to fit in to the ‘Party Hip-hop’ Music video genre we must include some of the items listed below such as jewellery, trainers, drinks or anything that represents high status and celebration.
In the Hip Hop genre women are usually objectified in music videos. Theses Music Videos usually have fast paced editing so the Music video producers rely on the use of women to slow the pace down. Women are also used to attract male audience as they usually enjoy watching women, this is an example of voyeurism.
In this particular frame , the role of women could be interpreted in two ways. The first one is that women are  portrayed to be dominant, this is because she is standing on top of some boxes which all forms a shape similar to that of a pedestal. She appears dominant because a Pedestal is associated with Winners, the highest ranker and leader and this is exactly why she appears dominant in this frame. On the other Hand, We can argue that the way she is posing and still in the video, women are portrayed to be passive, trophy like and something to look at.

High tops Trainers are usually very common in hip hop music videos, this is because it is the typical footwear worn in the Hip Hop communities.

Adding to the idea that women are passive in Hip Hop  Music Videos, there is a close up on this woman's lip which is showing her lipstick dripping this doesn't speed up the pace of the music video. It actually slows it down because it gets the audience wondering what it is really symbolizing. This agrees with Laura Malvey's male gaze theory.

Defining our Chosen Genre

This type of hip hop is defined as a movement, a culture, as well as a genre of music that is about materialistic things, getting money, women and cars. Party hip-hop is mixed with pop music music. Songs such as ‘Stronger’ by Kanye West which was first a club song created by ‘DAFT PUNK’. The celebratory side of the culture has been in the spotlight, and has now taken over the Gangster rap industry. Party Hip hop is going to be the genre of our Music Video; this genre does not follow all the typical stereotype of a hip hop music video because it is not about struggle and violence in the streets. It is actually about the opposite, which is celebration, joy and wealth. Hip-hop is sometimes inspirational,  for example rappers such as Lupe fiasco sometimes raps about how he made it out of the streets and he also raps about how he stands against the way women are portrayed in Hip hop Music Video.
